Short Term Program «Koreanology»

1. Introduction

The Koreanology Program is an opportunity to learn Korean during the summer or winter holidays.
The program includes language study in the morning and language exchange in the afternoon with Korean students enrolled in the Department of English Language and Literature. Cultural and entertainment activities are also held.

During the intensive study of the Korean language and culture at The USW, students will be able to experience what “Dynamic Korea” means. Being immersed in an environment wherein the target language is used, the students develop their speaking skills, thus enabling them to communicate more effectively. Visiting world-renowned places in Korea, the students will get to know the country and its people much better, and confirm its versatility.

2. Conduct of the Program

The intensive course on Korean language is conducted in groups and divided into two levels: primary and secondary. Groups are formed according to the results of the level test. At the primary level, grammar classes are taught in English, and speaking practice is conducted in Korean. All teachers are native speakers of Korean or speak near-native Korean.

Lectures on contemporary Korean culture include popular topics, such as music (k-pop), cinema (k-movie), national cuisine (k-food), and the Korean beauty industry (k-beauty). The program is specified depending on circumstances. All lectures are delivered in English by experienced specialists and researchers in each area. During the afternoon lessons (practice with native Korean speakers), meetings are held with The USW students, who are studying at the Faculty of English Language. Each student is assigned a Korean student-mentor to adapt better to life in Korea. The joint trip is held every Friday evening to get acquainted with the local culture and attractions.
