Visa Application and Entry Process

1. Application Submission

  • By mail only
  • Address: The Office of International Affairs, Room #109, International College of Global Talent,
    University of Suwon, 17 Wauan-gil, Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea 18323

2. Student Interviews

  • Conducted in person at the Office of International Affairs, University of Suwon

3. Acceptance Notification

  • Results will be announced on the International Student Admissions Homepage

4. Tuition Payment

  • Payment to the University’s designated Shinhan Bank account

5. Issuance of Standard Admission Documents

  • Certificate of Admission (CoA) issued by the University of Suwon
  • Copy of the University of Suwon’s Business Registration Certificate
  • All documents will be sent to the student by the Office of International Affairs

6. Preparation of Visa Application Documents

  • Visa Application Form
  • Passport and passport copy
  • One passport-sized photo
  • Certificate of Admission (CoA)
  • Academic documents (diploma, transcripts)
  • Financial proof issued by a domestic or foreign bank (minimum USD 20,000–25,000 recommended)
  • Family relation certificate and sponsor documents (if applicable)
  • Study plan and statement of purpose (required for enhanced screening)
  • Any additional documents requested by the Korean Embassy/Consulate

7. Visa Application Submission

  • Submit to the Korean Embassy/Consulate in your home (or residing) country
  • Both original documents and copies must be submitted
  • Pay the visa application fee at the Embassy/Consulate
  • Additional interview may be required

8. Visa Screening and Approval

  • Screening period usually takes 3–6 weeks (may be longer)
  • Embassy may further verify financial capability and study purpose
  • Phone or in-person interview may be required
  • Visa issued after completion of enhanced screening

9. Entry to Korea

  • Enter Korea with your passport and issued D-2 visa
  • Bring your Certificate of Admission (CoA) and other admission documents upon arrival
  • Move to your dormitory or accommodation

10. Post-Arrival Procedures

  • Apply for Alien Registration Card within 90 days of arrival
  • Attend the International Student Orientation
  • Enroll in mandatory National Health Insurance


Enhanced Visa Screening for High-Risk Countries
(Ministerial Notice Countries & Priority-Control Countries)

The following countries are classified by the Ministry of Justice as high-risk for illegal stay. Applicants from these countries are subject to stricter D-2 visa screening, which may include additional documents, rigorous financial verification, extended processing time, and mandatory interviews.


Ministerial Notice Countries

Ghana, Nigeria, Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Iran, Egypt, India, Indonesia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines


Priority-Control Countries

Guinea, Mali, Ethiopia, Uganda, Cameroon

Enhanced Screening Process for Applicants from These Countries

1. Strengthened Financial Verification

  • Higher bank balance required (USD 20,000–30,000 or more recommended)
  • Bank statements covering 30+ days of transactions may be requested
  • Sponsor documents (employment certificate, income proof, family relation certificate) may be mandatory
  • Additional authenticity verification of bank documents

2. Enhanced Academic Background Verification

  • Academic documents may require Apostille or consular confirmation
  • Direct contact with previous schools for verification
  • Any discrepancy may lead to immediate visa denial

3. Mandatory Study Plan & Statement of Purpose Review

  • Detailed study plan, academic goals, and post-graduation plans required
  • Evaluation of genuine study intent and risk of illegal employment

4. Mandatory Interview (Phone or In-Person)

  • Very high probability of interview for applicants from these countries
  • Typical questions: reason for studying in Korea, financial ability, academic background, future plans

5. Extended Screening Period

  • Processing may take 4–8 weeks or longer
  • Additional documents may be requested at any time

6. Strict Review of Immigration History

  • Past visa refusals, overstays, or frequent entry/exit records will be closely reviewed
  • Problematic records may cause delay or denial

Important Notes for Applicants from These Countries

  • Enhanced national risk classification screening will be applied.
  • It is strongly recommended to apply for the D-2 visa at least 6–8 weeks before the intended entry date.
  • Incomplete or unverifiable documents may result in delays or visa refusal.
